Overly honest methods – how experiments really get done

"we did experiment 2 because we didn't know what the fuck to make of experiment 1"

" I went into sociology because I'm nosy. Everything I do is generally an extension of people watching."

"I cited this paper because everyone else has cited it, though noone has ever seen an actual copy"

"Bacteria were cultured in a shaking incubator with frequent verbal encouragement to "Grow, you bastards, grow!"

"we didn't read half of the papers we cite because they are behind a paywall"

"The first author didn't write this Methods section and doesn't understand half of it."

"We did not make the corrections suggested by reviewer 1 because we think reviewer 1 is a f***ing idiot"

"We don't know how the results were obtained. The postdoc who did all the work has since left to start a bakery."

"We used jargon instead of plain English to prove that a decade of grad school and postdoc made us smart."

"Blood samples were spun at 1500rpm because the centrifuge made a scary noise at higher speeds."
