Postdoc, Lab Manager and Ph.D. Student positions - Insect Microbiomes

The forming Symbiosis Evolution research group at the Institute of Environmental Sciences at Jagiellonian University (www.symbioses.pl) has several open positions. The appointed researchers will implement and apply high-throughput next-generation sequencing and bioinformatics to the study of the ecological and evolutionary dynamics of the microbial symbioses of insects. The research is funded by NAWA Polish Returns grant "Insect Microbiomics" and NCN Sonata Bis grant "The evolutionary dynamics of the symbioses of Auchenorrhyncha".

POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCHER - INSECT MICROBIOMES
A NAWA-funded Postdoctoral Researcher position focused on the diversity and dynamics of insect microbiomes is available from 1 July 2019 for 48 months. The Postdoc will initially focus on the development of molecular methods and bioinformatic protocols for a high-throughput survey of insect microbiomes. Later, they will lead the characterization of microbiomes in extensive collections of insects and work on the analysis of the resulting data.

*** The review of applications starts in early May.

LAB MANAGER / RESEARCH TECHNICIAN
A NAWA-funded Laboratory Manager position is available from 1st July 2019 for 48 months. The appointed person will provide logistics and administrative support to the growing team, ensure the efficient function of the laboratory, and participate in research (sample management and processing).

*** The review of applications starts on 24th April.

PH.D. STUDENT - EVOLUTION OF INSECT SYMBIOSES
An NCN-funded Ph.D. Student position starts on 1st October 2019. The Student will focus on the bioinformatic reconstruction of co-diversification and replacement of heritable nutritional endosymbiotic bacteria and fungi across the diversity of the hemipteran suborder Auchenorrhyncha, and phylogenomic analyses of the host and symbiont relationships.

*** The review of applications starts on 12th May 2019.

POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCHER IN BIOINFORMATICS - SWEDEN
Also, we are looking for a Postdoc (24 months), who will be based at the Swedish Museum of Natural History in Stockholm, Sweden, but work closely with our group at Jagiellonian University. As a part of an international team conducting one of the most extensive insect biodiversity surveys to date, the Postdoc will develop bioinformatic pipelines for the high-throughput analysis of insect community metabarcoding data and apply them to a massive collection of bulk insect samples from across Sweden and Madagascar.
*** Details at https://symbioses.pl/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/Postdoc_NRM-IBA_Bioinformatics.pdf
*** Application deadline - 12th May.
